Paul Winter, MBA, CFA, CFP®

Meet Paul Winter, MBA, CFA, CFP®

Paul founded Five Seasons Financial Planning with the belief that consumers deserve objective, professional financial advisory services.  As the sole practitioner and President at Five Seasons, an independent Fee-Only firm, he is able to ensure that clients receive:

* customized and accountable management of their portfolios,

* unbiased advice on their financial issues and concerns, and

* a level of service distinguished by its responsiveness and attention to detail.

Experienced

A seasoned investment professional, Paul has worked in the financial services industry for 25+ years.  For more than a decade in New York City, he committed capital and managed risk while trading in a variety of financial markets for global financial services firms.  In 2004 Paul established Five Seasons Financial Planning, a registered investment advisory firm in the state of Utah, to offer his investment expertise to clients and to provide them with professional, Fee-Only portfolio management and financial planning services.

Knowledgeable

Paul is a CFA charterholder and a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM practitioner.  He is also a member of the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), the nation's leading organization of Fee-Only comprehensive financial planners. Members of NAPFA are dedicated to providing consumers with holistic and professional financial advice, free from the conflicts of interest that arise with the sale of financial products.  The CFP® certification and NAPFA membership both have mandatory continuing education requirements.  Paul is also a former Enrolled Agent, an individual licensed to represent taxpayers before the IRS.

Paul writes all of the posts for the Articles on Wealth Management Topics blog, with topics ranging from portfolio management to tax planning and retirement funding.  He has also written articles on retirement plans for the Wasatch Business Connections magazine.

"So if you have an adviser who is among the few who have earned the CFA designation, or if his or her firm has a CFA on the payroll, consider it a plus."

- Jonathan Burton, Wall St. Journal.

Well-Educated

Paul has two business degrees to draw upon for the benefit of serving clients. He graduated from Columbia University in New York City with an MBA, where his majors were (i) Money and Financial Markets, and (ii) Finance. While attending Columbia University, an Ivy League institution whose finance program is perennially ranked among the best in the country, Paul was named a Dean’s Scholar and was granted membership in the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society. He also graduated with Great Distinction and received a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University in Montreal, where he majored in Accounting and Management Information Systems.  While at McGill Paul also served as a Teaching Assistant in Statistics, tutoring groups of students in weekly classroom sessions.

Reputable

Paul has been interviewed several times on Fox 13 News and has been featured on the Dow Jones Newswire.  He has appeared twice as a guest expert on the "Your Money" radio show, handling listener questions on investing and retirement planning with host Professor Kent Smetters of the Wharton Business School.  In addition, Paul has been invited to give presentations on investing to fellow practitoners from the Financial Planning Association of Utah and NAPFA.  He has also been quoted on a variety of financial planning and investment topics in the local and national print media, including the Wall Street Journal, SmartMoney, Business Week, Kiplinger's, Newsweek, the Salt Lake Tribune, the Deseret Morning News, and Financial Planning and Financial Advisor magazines.

Versatile

While Paul has lived in the U.S. his entire adult life, he is a citizen of both Canada and the U.K., has worked on institutional trading floors in all three countries, and has been educated both here and abroad.  A former certified ski instructor, Paul has been an avid skier for almost 50 years.  Paul plays squash regularly to stay fit and has become hooked on fly-fishing.  He can be seen enjoying the Utah outdoors with his wife Beth, daughter Ashley, and their bagel hound, Danica.
